Why your skin needs 8 hours of beauty sleep too

Do you feel more like a troll than a queen when you rise and shine? You aren't alone. Most of us aren't getting the sleep we need- in both quantity and QUALITY.

That's the key with beauty rest; your skin needs time to refresh and renew. If you spend your nights tossing and turning in front of a blaring tv screen, sleeping on your face on an old pillow, or completely dehydrated you aren't doing yourself (or your skin) any favors.

Your littles aren't the only ones who need a good night's rest. Tuck that gorgeous face in for a little R&R with a few easy tips.

1. Drink plenty of fluids before bed. This seems easy enough, but most of us don't do it. Keeping your body hydrated benefits all of your cells, and mirrors on your gorgeous face when you wake in the morning.

2. Turn that TV Off. Seems silly, but that harsh light does more than just damage your eyes. When your senses are still being engaged by a bright screen or loud commercials, it keeps your brain from going into the deeper stages of sleep, where our bodies do all their repair work. Give yourself a break now and then and enjoy an evening of truly uninterrupted sleep.

3. Use a silk pillowcase. Why? The short answer is that it's better for your hair and your skin. (Insert science here) Silk is hypoallergenic and is far less likely than cotton or satin to leave your face looking like you left in in the dryer all night. Extra added bonus, because it doesn't retain bacteria the same way normal pillowcases do, it can also help lessen bouts of acne. (Who knew??)

For extra protection and anti-aging goodness, try dabbing on a little Beauty Serum before you catch some zzz's. Your skin will thank you for it!
